Time for another picture update! Here's a brief overview of special events this past month...
Writing a Children's Book
|
I showed my class my favorite children's book, Flotsam, by David Weisner. This book is different than most because it uses detailed illustrations to tell a story, rather than words. I assigned each of my students several pages and asked them to write words to the story. It was so fun to hear each of their different "voices"or perspectives of the book, and I was so proud of the results! After we finished co-writing the story together, we shared our work with the 1st-2nd grade class. They sat spellbound as I showed them the pictures and the 5th graders read the sections they had written. |
Dance-a-thon
In order to get students excited for our new school building, we gave them an opportunity to raise money for an item of their choice. They voted on a common room in which they will be able to hang out, have chapel meetings, or special class events. We hosted our first dance-a-thon on Feb 2, and students gathered sponsors to give money if they danced the day away. Some students were there for the entire 12 hours!!! Altogether, the students raised almost $4,000!
|
Our gym was all decked out with balloons and crepe paper for the festivities |
|
Our director, Leslie, opened the event with prayer |
|
Even at 9:00 in the morning, the students were dancing up a storm. |
|

|
I had the pleasure of teaching some square dances. :) |
|

We also projected a computer program on the wall which showed different dance moves to songs. |

Back for some swing! |
Other dances not pictured included the fox trot and waltz.
Overall, the day was a success. The students did such a great job raising money,
and they had a blast dancing!
Cooking/Hang out Night
Another fun get-together this month was going to Betsy's house to learn cooking and hospitality tips. This sweet lady from my church is so fun to hang with, and has much wisdom to give to younger women. This night was such a blessing and so yummy too!

Welcome to "Cooking with Betsy!"
Tonight's menu includes "American" goolash (tomato, beef, and potato soup), broccoli salad, and peach cobbler
